Welcome to the Kindergarten Olympics 2010! We enjoyed studying the Olympics so much that we decided to hold our own Olympics for our class. Each afternoon, we prepared something for our Olympics. We made giant Olympic rings to put on our bulletin board. We painted torches and tie-died coffee filters to make the flame. Miss Terwelp built an Olympic torch to hold the Olympic flame. We even made laurel wreaths in our team colors, just like the original Olympians won in Ancient Greece. Each Kindergarten Olympian created their own international flag to represent them in the Opening Ceremonies. On Tuesday, we participated in the torch relay and the Opening Ceremonies. On Wednesday, we held our Olympic Games. We participated in individual, partner and team events. On Thursday, we held our medal ceremony where we each stepped up onto the podium and received a gold medal followed by the raising of the American flag and the playing of the Star Spangled Banner! The photographer from the newspaper came and took pictures of us receiving our medals! For our Closing Ceremony, we extinguished our Olympic flame. What a busy week we have had!
